The process for this illustration involved research on the book, chimpanzees, and wedding trends from 1920s-30s in order to find a visual language that could properly represent this story. I took the time to familiarize myself with drawing certain elements, first focusing on drawing a chimpanzee bride. As I put myself in the shoes of a reader searching for their next read, I thought about what traits would make me want to pick up this book. That led to the creation of this quirky yet mysterious cover of a bride who is just a little unusual.
